Grammy Award winning Pop/R&B/Dance and Style Icon Jody Watley who has sold over 50 million albums worldwide with platinum and gold albums under her belt as a solo artist and original member of Shalamar was ranked by Billboard Magazine in 2016 as one of the Greatest Dance Club Acts of All Time. Watley is hailed by Wax Poetics's Dean Van Nguyen as one of music's prominent visionaries whose influence remains a touchstone in contemporary music.
In 2015 Watley established the new vocal dance trio Jody Watley and SRL (formerly Shalamar Reloaded). We've changed our name to get out from under any baggage that may have come along. I decided I didn't want to be a new version of an old group and after our first single and video "Slowdance" that was clear. We've done what any business would do revise and work on building a new brand and experience for fans and what's fulfilling for us. Our vibe is still intact no matter what we're called, others have taken notice of that." Watley says.
On board are Ohio native, male lead lead and instant heart throb Nate Allen Smith and renowned choreographer Rosero McCoy (Keke Palmer, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Toni Braxton,America's Best Dance Crew, Disney's Shake It Up).
In a short timespan, SRL have taken their dynamic concert experience to sold out concerts around the United States (Los Angeles, Oakland, New York, Honolulu,Washington D.C., Atlantic City) to rave reviews with guest appearances with Jody Watley. "Jody Watley puts on a full on stage show complete with powerful band and imaginative choreography!..Nate Allen Smith and Rosero McCoy – both seasoned performers who brought the Shalamar Reloaded mantra into the 21st Century in a vast and triumphant way...Jody Watley featuring SRL presented an event that was an all-out triumph." -Ken Morton, Highwiredaze Review. The Roxy Theatre Los Angeles 2017.
Joined by SRL's Nate Allen Smith and Rosero McCoy along with a funky rhythm section that breath new life into classic songs originated by Watley (A Night to Remember, Take That To The Bank, Make That Move, The Second Time Around, Right In The Socket, Full of Fire among others), as well as their own new critically acclaimed material including singles the 90's R&B tinged "The Mood" and the trap soul swag of O.R.I.G.IN.A.L. Watley says emphatically, "We're not just up here going through the motions. We are bringing a kick ass show, visuals, trendsetting style, new choreography - all of it. Fans get a unique experience because they really get two concerts in one, they get Jody Watley mega hits (Looking for A New Love, Don't You Want Me, Friends, Real Love and more) adding the SRL experience bring a musical journey spanning genres from disco, soul, funk, pop, hip hop and dance electronica. Everyone leaves inspired and even surprised; always silencing the naysayers.
Television appearances include (WGN Morning News Chicago, KTLA Morning News Los Angeles with Sam Rubin, MY Fox5 DC Morning Show, Good Day Washington), two one hour specials on SIRIUSXM's The Groove with BK Kirkland and other media hits and blog features across the web. Internationally, Jody Watley and SRL have played to rave reviews at Let's Rock London Music Festival, Happy Days and a sold-out performance at Amsterdam's Melkweg.
As an artistic statement, it’s a perfect encapsulation of Watley’s career thus far as she says "This is where I’ve been, this is what I’ve done - this is where I am and what I’m doing right now. This is how I’m mapping the future, I've sold millions of records, have influenced a new generation of women in music not to mention many solo benchmarks, from the UK's Band Aid, remaining one of MTV's Most Nominated Artists, I'm an award winning songwriter with BMI .. but it's not about resting on laurels. SRL are now a part of my moving forward for exciting new adventures. It's exciting to bring these men into the forefront and generate new interest and a budding fanbase, as well as delighting older fans who still want to feel invigorated and full of life."
With three much talked about singles and videos under their belt (the soulful ballad 'Slowdance', the edgy and bold O.R.I.G.IN.A.L and the feel good jam "The Mood') SRL continue paving a new path.
"That's a part of what our forthcoming "Bridges" album is about; building pathways for those what want to be on it and new connections. Inspired by the past because we've all learned from it - but wanting to build something new and better for today moving toward the future. Bringing people together in the world through music, all ages and ethnicities. A universal squad so to speak. It's great to have this type of group experience and I'm happy the universe brought this to me...we want to be together and work well as a team."
The always busy and mulit-talented Rosero McCoy says emphatically while working on the set of a new Nickleodeon show as choreographer “There’s new merchandise for fans to purchase, people are vibin to our personal style and connecting on social media, making fan videos and things like that to show support." "We have more music and video on the way. We want to connect with this generation and all those before who are still wanting to have a good time and appreciate what we're doing. We're just getting started.” Nate Smith adds, "It's all quality stuff and it's great to have this opportunity."
The debut full length release "Bridges" is expected in 2018 while Jody Watley continues her solo evolutuon and adding SRL continues to raise the roof, cover new ground and get fans in the mood! Bridges is about bringing people of all types and ages together, that's what we're about.
